Point of Interest:
Polyaspartic polyurea in hand-application on living room
floors and walls in "wet-areas" (shower, bath), aliphatic
polyurea coating in spray-application outside.
Project:
Euro-Cube home addition of the private owner in the city of Villach, Austria.
300 m2 outside coating with PolyVers PV42D aliphatic.
150 m2 floor and wall coating with PolyVers PV425 polyaspartic.
Construction time from May to July 2008.
Problems & Challenges:
Off-site coating of plywood panels with PolyVers PV 42D as an exterior coating.
An aliphatic polyurea was chosen because of its high abrasion resistance,
color stability, resistance to thermal shock, and seamless water proofing ability.
A crane lifted prefabricated elements onto the supports since traditional
construction methods would have caused too much disruption to the busy city
center. Each element was then fitted together and all joints, seams and detail
work were sprayed.
Scope of Work:
A new process of modular construction using aliphatic polyurea as a protective
membrane and architectural UV stable coating.
Meet the strict zoning and historical preservation laws of the city government.
Showing interested architects the possibilities of the polyurea technology.
Site Challenges & Unforeseen Issues:
Repairs, seams, and joints required detailed masking and preparation to
contain the overspray.
Some pre-coated panels were damages while being hoisted into place by the
the crane and had to be prepared and re-coated.
Some details had to be sprayed in arrangement with other professionals
(roofer).
The proportioner was left on the ground and the hoses were run 60 meters
up to access “The Cube.”
Project Status:
Construction time from May to July 2008.
The owner is living inside “The Cube” since October 2008.
“The Cube” has endured heavy snowfalls and negative temperatures
(down to -12°C) without any problems. |
